Dynamo Coordinate System

If you ask Dynamo to show you the coordinates of the Survey Point you could be surprised by the result. That's because Dynamo uses the Project Base Point as Origin with the Orientation set to Project North. Therefore these are the Survey Point Coordinates calculated from the Project Base Point. If you place a column at (0,0,0) it will match the position of the Project Base Point: For a generic Point in space we can have 4 different situations. 1. The Point Coordinates are taken from the Project Base Point and the True North matches the Project North. Similar to the previous example, we can input these coordinates (6500,7800,0) directly into the FamilyInstance.ByPoint node: 2. The Point Coordinates are taken from the Survey Point and the True North matches the Project North. The Coordinate System Origin in Dynamo is coincident with the Project Base Point. We need to recalculate the Point Coordinates from the Project Base Point...

Cut voids in slab around pipes

Let's assume we have to cut voids in the slab around each pipe with a tolerance of 50mm. We can use a Generic Model Adaptive Family to create a void extrusion: "Cut with Voids When Loaded" must be thick if we want to be able to cut the slab. We can also set the void extrusion diameter as instance parameter so we can change it according to the pipe size. The Dynamo script is pretty simple: After selecting the pipes we extract the Element Location (which represent a line) start and end points and we use them to place our adaptive void family. We also extract the Size of the pipes and add the tolerance to it. We then set the void diameter and cut the slab with the void families: The dynamo script can be downloaded here and the Revit family here
